I have always been wondering, its name really does speak for itself: BELLAGIO, short for “bello is villaggio” meaning the village is beautiful.
A small local village between the towns of Como and Lecco in Italy is dubbed as the Pearl of the Lake. Indeed, it deserves its title.
The moment you set foot on it, you will surely be busy taking pictures. You’ll be wanting to have every piece of the place. It offers a spectacular view of the Lake Como. Postcard quality landscapes and picturesque panoramas.
Don’t miss the best promenade in Europe I should say, the Lungolago Europa which gives you the most scenic vista of the lake. It’s just a stone’s throw away from the ferry dock which also leads to one of the most beautiful and well maintained gardens I have ever visited, the gardens of Villa Melzi d’Eril.
Plus the uphill alleyway steps leading to the old town proper and the historic landmarks of the village are not to be missed as well. This is one of the unique characteristics of the place.
But of course, Bellagio is not just about the lakes and the views… It serves good food too… Fresh catch from the lake right to your plate! How is that? There’s this restaurant La Fontana located at the old town. Away from the lakeside spot restos which are more expensive by the way. They serve good food at reasonable prices, with free wifi and a very accommodating owner/waiter/barista/cashier all in one.
Bellagio also serves as a haven for artists. Who would not be inspired by its breathtaking spectacle? In fact, the Bellagio Centre within the Villa Serbelloni which is owned by the Rockefeller Foundation offers programmes and fellowships for exceptionally talented artists.
I have been here twice yet it always seems like the first time. Bellagio has wowed me two times! A really great place to relax and just admire the beauty of God’s masterpiece. This will be an all time favourite escape from the city!
